55watt hid vs 55watt halogen heat3/24/2024 ![]() In my statement, I never said the goal to be "not courteous" to people, you naturally made a childish assumption. Federal statutes often impede on each other, so there is no definite right/wrong answer to this.Ģ. This may be something worth looking into, as State vs. I understand the meaning of "Federal" perfectly, thanks. The NHTSA has found that putting HID bulbs in a halogen housing simply doesn't produce the correct beam patterns or photometry. Putting rebased HID bulbs in a lamp designed for halogen bulbs (like that factory fog lamps) is illegal per FMVSS-108, which again covers the entire US. I don't see what wrong with being courteous to other drivers.ģ. Most HID bulbs marketed as "8000k" actually have a blue tinted capsule, meaning they are technically no longer white, and hence illegal.Ģ. Actually headlamp color is regulated by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which covers the entire United States (hence the word Federal). Wrong, if you know what you're doing.SMHġ. The 55w kit produces a bit more heat, and could result in warping your housing.ģ. I agree to a point, though not to "be courteous to other drivers". Partially wrong: traffic code is according to state law, which varies (obviously).Ģ. Believe me, I've seen cars with them and they're blinding in the daytime.ġ. If you put a 55w hid kit in your fog lights the glare WILL be extreme. They're designed to use halogen bulbs, so putting HIDs in them will just result in lots of glare and a crappy scattered beam pattern with lots of hotspots. A 55w kit will cause excessive glare, and annoy other drivers.ģ. Not to mention they're illegal, since they're pure blue, and headlights are only permitted to project yellow or white light.Ģ. They have less light output than the stock 4300k bulbs, yet have more glare and cause more eye fatigue. I would not recommend doing any of the things you are planning.ġ. I hope my financial endeavors and the experience I gained save you time and money. I made a lot of stupid mistakes buying different lights for my anzo's. I bought 4500k wanting the factory color, but as of right now I have head lights more yellow than the factory halogens as I wait for replacement 5500k bulbs. 55W ballasts will reduce your bulb color by about 1000k. One last thing with HID's got me because I didn't read all the way. ![]() I started with LED's and got very bad flicker which also reared its head with the HID's. THe other method to fix this flicker is using FORSCAN. This method works fine, but is yet another little brick you gotta figure out a way to hide. You can use anti-flicker capacitors that go inline between your ballasts and your factory wiring. I tried both and I'll tell you my preferred option. ![]() Now for another issue I learned the hard way. This harness pulls straight from the battery and uses the factory headlight plug (the h7 from the anzo's) as a trigger for the relay harness. I ended up replacing the cheaper kit that was supplied with a canbus harness with a Morimoto 55w kid with the HD relay harness. Some times the ballasts would recover and come back on, some times they wouldn't. It would completely shut off the head lights when the engine would kick back on. The start stop feature gave the first kid I tried fits.
